Managed IT Cost · Atlanta
What managed IT costs, and what it should include.
There is no honest flat price for managed IT. There is a short list of things that set the number, and a short list of things every quote should include. Once you know both, you can read any MSP quote, ours included.

The short answer
Managed IT costs a predictable monthly fee instead of an hourly bill. The fee comes down to how many people and devices are supported, what is in scope, how many locations you have, how much cleanup comes first, and whether you already have IT staff.
That is why we do not publish a price per user. Any average would hide the parts that actually move the number. Instead, we assess what you have and quote from that. The rest of this page is what we look at, so you can hold any quote to the same standard.
What drives managed IT cost
How many people and devices
Most managed IT is priced on the people or the devices supported: workstations, laptops, servers, and the network gear between them. Count both, because a ten-person office with three servers is a different job from a ten-person office in the cloud.
What is in scope
Monitoring and the help desk are the core. Backup, security tools, cloud services, vendor management, and planning may be in the flat rate or billed on top. Two quotes with the same monthly number can cover very different work.
How many locations
Every office adds a network, an internet circuit, and a place an engineer may have to drive to. Remote-only support and on-site support across Metro Atlanta are priced differently.
The state of the environment today
Undocumented networks, unsupported hardware, and backups nobody has tested need fixing before anyone can run them for a flat rate. That cleanup is often quoted as onboarding, separate from the monthly fee.
Backup, recovery, and downtime →Security and compliance requirements
Cyber insurance questionnaires and industry rules can require MFA, endpoint detection and response, patch management, and tested backups. Meeting them is part of the job, and part of the price.
Benefits of managed IT services →Whether you already have IT staff
Co-managed IT, where we work alongside your internal IT person, covers less than a fully managed department, and is priced to match.
How managed IT providers price
Most providers use one of a few models, or a mix. None is cheaper in every case. What matters is what each one counts and what it leaves out.
| Model | How it is billed | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Per user | A monthly fee for each person supported, usually covering every device they use. | What counts as a user, and whether shared machines and servers are extra. |
| Per device | A monthly fee for each workstation, server, or network device under management. | Whether new devices are covered automatically, and what happens to the bill as you grow. |
| Flat-rate bundle | One monthly price for a defined scope: monitoring, help desk, backup, and security. | What sits outside the bundle: projects, after-hours work, and on-site visits. |
| Co-managed | A smaller monthly scope alongside your internal IT, for the parts they should not carry alone. | A written split of who owns what, so nothing falls between the two teams. |
| Break-fix or hourly | You pay for time when something breaks, with no monthly fee. | Nobody is paid to prevent problems, so the cost rises with every outage. |
Our model is flat-rate. One predictable monthly bill for a defined scope, because when it is a flat rate, we only do well if your technology stays stable. For a way to weigh any fee against what IT costs you today, read measuring managed services ROI.
What managed IT should include
Whatever the pricing model, these belong in the scope of a fully managed agreement. If a quote leaves one out, ask what it costs to add.
- Monitoring, patching, and maintenance for servers, workstations, and the network.
- A help desk your staff can call, and who actually answers it.
- Backups for servers, email, and business data, with restores that are tested, not just reported.
- Endpoint protection, email filtering, and MFA.
- Documentation of your environment that you own and can take with you.
- Regular planning check-ins: what is aging, what is at risk, and what to budget for.
Questions to ask on any managed IT quote
- Is this priced per user, per device, or as a bundle, and what exactly counts?
- What is in the monthly fee, and what is billed on top: projects, on-site visits, after-hours work?
- Is there an onboarding or cleanup fee, and what does it cover?
- Who answers when we call, and are they local? What are the response targets, in writing?
- Are backups tested with real restores, and how often?
- Which security tools are included, and will they satisfy our cyber insurance questionnaire?
- Do we own the documentation and passwords if we leave?
How we price managed IT
We start by auditing what you have: servers, workstations, network, backups, and security. We document all of it and tell you honestly what is worth keeping. Then we quote a flat monthly rate for running it, with scope and response terms written into the agreement. If something needs fixing first, the quote says so.
Already have an IT person? We price co-managed support for the parts they should not have to carry alone. See managed IT services in Atlanta for what we run and how.
Managed IT cost questions
- How much does an MSP cost in Atlanta?
- There is no honest single number. The monthly fee follows the people and devices supported, the scope, the number of locations, and how much cleanup comes first. Ask every provider to price the same scope and list what is excluded. That makes quotes comparable in a way an average never will.
- Is managed IT cheaper than hiring an in-house IT person?
- Compare the full cost, not just the fee. An internal hire carries salary, benefits, tools, and training, and one person cannot cover every skill or every day off. A managed IT fee buys a team. Many businesses do both: an internal IT person plus co-managed support behind them.
- What is not usually included in managed IT?
- It varies by provider. Hardware purchases, software licenses, and larger projects such as a cloud migration or an office move are often quoted separately. Ask for the exclusions in writing before you compare monthly prices.
- Is break-fix cheaper than managed IT?
- In a quiet month, it can be. Over a year, break-fix pays for the same problems more than once, and nobody is paid to prevent them. Flat-rate managed IT works the other way: the provider only does well when your technology stays stable.
- Can you give me a price over the phone?
- We can talk through scope on the phone. A real number comes from an assessment, because what you have today decides most of the cost. Call 770.953.2500 to set that up.
